How can research improve our standard of healthcare? There are several barriers that prevent new evidence from entering day-to-day clinical practice. Starting in the field of Alzheimer's disease and neurodegeneration, my experience has focussed on identifying potential solutions, including: the need for better neuropsychological tools; better integration and communication between researchers, the public and their clinicians, including sharing of data; the breakdown of research silos; the development of digital tools; a comprehensive understanding of preventable environmental risk factors, and, most recently, the improved accessibility, quality and reliability of real world evidence/data (RWE/RWD) to inform regulatory decision making.
