I am a mechanical Engineer in Training, currently working in mechanical system design.I enjoy applying my skills to a wide variety of mechanical engineering projects including revisions to heating/ventilation/cooling systems, building condition assessments for the City of Calgary and Calgary Board of Education, industrial ventilation upgrades, assisting with LEED ventilation studies, and medical and paramedical offices including dentist offices. The majority of projects involve retrofitting new systems into existing buildings, and include a consideration of construction costs and logistics, and usage/maintenance of the system by the client/facility operator.My roles include drafting (in AutoCAD), designing, and inspecting mechanical systems, including adherence to local codes and regulations. I conduct engineering calculations by hand, on excel spreadsheets, and using calculation software including Trace 700. I also mange projects at all states from initial design and coordination to contract administration and project close out. This includes site visits, chairing construction meetings, responding to RFIs, and issuing contract documents including change orders.Though my role mostly consists of independent work, many projects involve a high degree of collaboration with co-workers, other firms, manufacturers/suppliers, and clients. Additionally, I have experience working in team environments, including multiple university design projects intended to have a positive impact on people's lives, such as my involvement in a group engineering design project in my second year of university, where we developed a device that assists those afflicted by talipes by reducing pain and improving gait.
