Technology Enhanced Learning Officer

Bridgend

As lead designer and developer of eLearning content, I worked to a programme of developing new and converting existing classroom-based courses into SCORM compliant eLearning packages as part of a wider, blended learning course, all housed on the virtual learning environment and aligned to national occupational standards and version control standards. I created a video library website (similar to You Tube) using HTML and ASP coding with CSS and Javascript in order to capture and reinforce the information in the form of a video without the need for an Officer to re-attend a training course. I work alongside subject matter experts to create the training video’s (filming, editing video and audio, animation, graphics, script writing and role-playing) that covering all aspect of legislation, procedure, and best practise. The videos prove to be very popular, with statistical hits in the thousands. I have received a commendation from my senior management team and was nominated for best technological initiative at Police awards in 2012.I create online courseware, eBriefings, eProtfolios, workbooks, and digital video using the latest in Adobe eLearning authoring tools. I also held responsibility for the simulated operations training. At HQ I develop and facilitate simulated training scenarios primarily with our investigative training team but also with external agencies and civil contingency partners to produce immersive learning solutions that are as real to life as possible. My duties involve storyboarding and scenario building, filming and editing video, audio, images and writing access database code for each course.

Nov 2011 - Apr 2015

Learning Management System Support Officer

My role at South Wales Police's Training department, known as Learning Development Services, includes the management and administration of our Managed Learning Environment system, creating training videos and interactive applications, and ad-hoc computer-based technical support.I was tasked with re-designing our departments Intranet website which encorporates our 13 sections as sub-sites. I used an ASP Content Management System (CMS) along with Adobe Dreamweaver for HTML and CSS to develop the website, which has made our communication to our staff and colleague current and kept others up-to-date with our business. As part of a small team, I was a involved in the deployment of a new managed learning environment (MLE), called NCALT which is a platform for hosting SCORM compliant e-learning course work and web content for which I have developed many packages of a variety of Policing topics. The e-learning, often found as part of a wider blend of learning, allows Officers and Staff to commence training courses on their chosen subject at their own pace and in their own time.My team and I have also been troubleshooting a new video conferencing facility that will allow traditional classroom based training and blended learning to be converted to e-learning, with the supporting of coaches and mentors in the workplace. The facility will also allow a presenter to broadcast to many users at once over the Intranet, thus reducing travel and time costs and abstractions. My PTLLS qualification means that I can be called upon to deliver classroom based training courses to Police officers and staff when required. An ongoing project of mine was the development of a Social Learning project. This project evolved over a period of time into a video library website similar to YouTube, designed to reduced the skill fade post training course.

Ict Service Desk Analyst

As a service desk analyst my duties were to help customers (police officers and staff) with IT hardware and software issues, running reports, resetting passwords, and ensuring that our systems were operational at all times.Working as part of a large team I helped in the role out of new Blackberry devices and the support of them thereafter. Faults would arise from various sources including laptops, desktops, printers and blackberrys, and a host of Police bespoke software. I would always try my upt most to resolve the user's issue for a first-line first-time fix. Often permission levels would restrict my resolving of an issue whereby I'd escalate the issue to the appropriate 2nd line team, ensuring good customers services by always keeping the customer informed at all times.Working independently I took project lead on the re-design and development of our Intranet website. The knowledge base I created and the strategic marketing plan implemented meant that the new website helped solve common user issues thus resulting in a reduction in the volume of calls to the service desk and an increase staff efficiency.

Apr 2009 - Mar 2010

Web Designer & Developer

Roadrunner Motorparts

After graduating from University I worked for a small family-run motor parts business developing a web presence for them.My initial duties were to develop a website that would attract customers in-store by informing them of the services we offer, the items we stock and products we sell. www.roadrunnerparts.net has changed a lot since then and is now a fully fledged e-commerce website.Roadrunner specialised in the supply of parts and accessories for the Chrysler PT Cruiser and the Internet was the idea place to setup a shop window for these products.I researched an appropriate content management system (CMS) with e-commerce capabilities to keep order of the website.Actinic CMS was my tool of choice as it gave me flexibility to develop my own code and didnt restrict me to template designs. www.ptcruzin.co.uk proved to be a very successful website and on the back of this success I was tasked with developing a website that specialisted in the supply of alloy wheels and tyres - www.speedzone.co.ukOver the years Roadrunner had accumalated a lot of old/dead stock which was cluttering shelves and not selling. I suggested that an eBay shop be created of which I managed the marketing and communications to customers. Email addresses were gathered in-store and online in order to target customers with items that would be attractive to them. www.cheapercarparts.com still re-directs to their eBay shop today. The programming languages and tools I used to created the websites include ASP.Net, HTML, CSS, Perl, Javascript, Dreamweaver, Flash, Photoshop, Fireworks, and Actinic CMS to name a few.
