MD/PhD candidate at State University of New York, Upstate Medical University in the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology department. I study mitochondrial biology in the context of neuromuscular degeneration in Xin Jie Chen's laboratory. We leverage the power of yeast genetics to understand the basic mechanisms of cell degeneration caused by mitochondrial dysfunction, and then translate our findings to human cell and mouse models of disease. I have extensive training in molecular biology, mitochondrial biology, yeast genetics, and mouse behavioral analysis. Eventually, I hope to use this training to establish a disease-focused research program in a Medical University. I also intend to maintain clinical practice with a portion of my time.

  Worked on two projects in the lab of John L. Yates. First, I discovered a highly conserved region in the Epstein-barr virus (EBV) genome that appears to play a role in the expression of lymphoma-related EBV genes. Second, I studied the requirements for EBV genome replication and maintenance in B cells.
