My role as an Environmental Scientist encompasses a broad range of tasks which make up the environmental monitoring program for Metropolitan Coal. Responsibilities include: • Surface water monitoring and sampling.• Shallow and deep groundwater monitoring and sampling (depths 10m to 300m+). • Gas release monitoring and inspections (Methane, carbon dioxide and sulphur dioxide gas)• River, rivulet and tributary monitoring and inspections, including stream mapping.• Swamp and cliff monitoring and inspections. • Mine psychometry monitoring.• Maintaining equipment such as probes and groundwater pumps.• Completing and managing sampling field sheets, inspection reports, Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), SLAMs, checklists and chain of custody documentation.• Using MS Excel to input large amounts of field sampling, monitoring and inspection data.• Laboratory work including; TOC testing, making up of standards, duplicates and blanks as well as probe calibration.
