Our aim is to develop sustainable systems which mimic photosynthetic pathways, selectively turning carbon dioxide into carbon monoxide or methane using only solar energy. We achieve this by using earth abundant metals within a porphyrin complex bound to a visible light sensitiser. The system is made further sustainable within an aqueous environment. To-date, we have made great progress with several systems including Fe and Co based catalysts with carbon nitride quantum dots as our sensitisers using only visible light to drive CO2 reduction to not only CO, but CH4. -
