Managing safety, production, and quality control for Murray Bros. Band and Scragg Mills. Mills produce a combined board footage of approximately 100,000 board feet per shift. Crews are made up by a total 45 staff members including loader operators, sawyers, maintenance personnel, sawmill equipment operators, and lumber pilers. Mills process a variety of species, primarily Eastern White Pine, Red Pine, Eastern Hemlock, Aspen, and Hard Maple. Mills produce 4/4, 5/4, and 6/4 lumber, which is graded on the green chain prior to sorting. Timbers are also produced, including 4x4, 4x8, 6x6, as well as other custom dimensions dependent on orders received.

Helping forestry professionals collect field data, develop and layout blocks for conventional and cable-assisted logging in BC's East Kootenays. Also involved in organizing relevant information in Site Plan documents. Experience as Crew Leader for projects, such as Leave Tree Marking in salvage blocks. Role included interacting with and provided updates to the client while leading field and directing field crews.

Planted approximately 100,000 trees on contracts for the Mazinaw Lanark Forest Inc., the Petawawa Research Forest, Vermillion Forest Management Ltd., Nawiinginokiima Forest Management Corporation, and the Hearst Forest.

Assisted with field work by measuring ground water and through fall volumes with the use of a lysimeter in the Haliburton Research Forest, ON, Canada. Also helped process samples of woody debris, leaf material, and soils sampled from the forest.

Planted approximately 75000 trees on a contract for Nawiinginokiima Forest Management Corporation based out of Marathon, ON.

Much of the summer was spent conducting Free To Grow surveys in which regeneration was assessed. Field data was entered into a software program in the field and would later be analyzed to help determine if blocks met stocking standards. Much of the survey field work was done independently and required strong navigational skills. The position also involved aiding forest technicians conduct tree marking and compliance audits.

Approximately half of my time was spent helping forest technicians complete a number of field-based tasks, including tree planting audits, tree marking audits, Free to Grow surveys, and timber cruising. The remainder of work involved independent work on Free to Grow surveys and, to a lesser extent, tree planting audits.

Received a grant from the government of Ontario to start company after submitting formal business plan ("Summer Company" program). The company involved teaching kids 8-14 basic skills specific to golf, softball, soccer, and tennis.

The position was based out of Murray Brother Lumber Company's flooring store called Boards, located in Barry's Bay. The main responsibilities involved interacting with customers, finalizing sales made by employees at the mill, delivering flooring to customers, and general maintenance of the store.
