This opportunity has allowed me to grow as a professional and as person. It provided me with a real world application to the mathematics and physics I learn in the classroom.At Rowan University I am striving to build my understanding of sustainable and environmental engineering. I have worked on clinic projects that have a focus on creating sustainable alternatives to engineering problems. One particular project that made me realize this was my passion was my Entrepreneurial Engineering Project. In this project, we were tasked to create an engineering product and present it to our class. Only 4 projects were selected to continue to the research and development phase and I was chosen as a project manager for my idea “Green Barriers”. This proposed idea used the common design and construction elements of standard road barriers as a base and adapted an open strip at the top of the barrier as well as more natural materials for the concrete to create a sustainable alternative. In this research I found it fascinating that I was able to redesign a product necessary for highway safety and create a sustainable alternative focused on mitigating the negative effects that highways have on our environment.
