An amazing experience working with the mineral resources team at CSIRO on SENSEI®, a real-time In situ zero-maintenance ground water electrochemical sensor. I was working to improve the all-solid-state reference electrodes used in SENSEI® by analysing their chemical and thermal resistance. The stability and performance of the electrodes was monitored using open-circuit potential and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy for months at a time. I also began an investigation into the use of different polymers including PDMS that would provide increased chemical and thermal resistance to the electrolyte composite.

Fantastic internship working with the composites team of the Aerospace Division at the DST research facility in Fisherman's Bend. My research involved the electrophoretic deposition of boron nitride nanotube thin films onto insulating substrates for their use in energy storage systems. Characterisation was performed using a combination of scanning and transmission electron microscopy as well as x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The effect of the films on the performance of the energy storage devices was evaluated via electrochemical analysis including cyclic voltammetry, chronopotentiometry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.

Awarded the LIMS Research Theme Summer Scholarship, involving the research into the electrophoretic deposition of insulating boron nitride nanotubes onto conducting substrates. Deposition parameters were investigated to produce optimal film thickness and quality. Chemical characterisation was performed with x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy.
