I am currently the site project manager for APi Construction's $60+ MM project for new construction at Plant Vogtle Units 3 and 4. These units are the first new nuclear reactors being built in the United States in over 30 years. It was my job to oversee the entirety of multi-million dollar projects. From personnel management to quality control, I kept all of the trains running on time and under budget. My local innovations and team effectiveness meant a 36% gross margin (even when the project was estimated at 26% gross margin) for the $5.4 MM DC Metrorail Silver Line Expansion Project. I pride myself in being a positive contributor to everyone with a seat at the table. For example, the $4.2 MM Army Distaff Foundation Knollwood Military Retirement Home retrofit project, we installed residential fire protection in a fully occupied, 100+ apartment retirement facility with little to no disruption of the general community.

Running the day-to-day of any well-oiled organization requires strategic planning and big picture thinking. Problematic and expensive hiccups can derail the advancement of any project. As such, I initiated local innovations to mitigate our risk and improve our systems. For example, I developed a safety and risk management roadmap to make continuous improvements in safety programs achieving an all-time low loss cost per hour of $0.02 in 2017. The startup office launched in the Washington, DC market quickly became the most effective profit center within two years. In addition, I implemented operational discipline reporting to ensure that we were pursuing the right work with the best customers. This moved our focus from bidding work to negotiating projects creating a monumental shift in our ability to adapt and grow.

It’s not just about keeping costs down and being efficient. I helped to drive a 58% growth in service and inspection revenues, which strategically allowed us to be far more selective in the volatile contract construction market. In 2013 service and inspection work accounted for 34% of total revenue. In 2018 that number had grown to 47% of revenue. What’s more, I spearheaded the effort to outsource our accounting to an APi Group sister company in 2014 to improve operational efficiency and synergy between the two businesses. The success of this pilot program led to the execution of a merger that resulted in the successful implementation of a new, global ERP platform.

I assumed the role of president at a time when we had more than 120 employees and three independent branch offices. I quickly recognized that two offices were underperforming and took corrective action to close our struggling offices. My strategy was to make a deliberate effort to shrink our business in order to repair our processes and recognize our losses in that fiscal year. As a result, we raised our EBITA performance for the ensuing five years.

I initiated our partnership with the Stephen Siller Foundation’s Building for America’s Bravest Program. Together, we managed the installation of 14 residential sprinkler systems for adaptive homes for severely wounded warriors.

I negotiated, reviewed, and interpreted contract terms and conditions to protect the interests of the company. As such, I initiated and maintained liaison with current and potential customers to develop and implement employee training, education, and up-grading to facilitate positive relationships and communications.

My role was to oversee the budget, align resources, track schedules, and provide weekly updates during outage periods for our clients. I served After-Action Reviews with our Power Plant customers to discuss all of the areas of work, what went well, and what mistakes we can learn from. I served as an ombudsman, directing the collective bargaining relationships with the signatory unions. This includes all Local, National and Project Labor Agreements. Together, we ensured contract integrity, making absolutely sure our company lived up to our end of the bargain.

I developed combat mission plans for supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. I was responsible for controlling coalition fire support assets during joint U.S. and Iraqi combat patrols. I led more than 100 combat missions resulting in greatly increased security in area of operations. What’s more, our partnership with an Iraqi Infantry Battalion, developing training plans and supervising the training of more than 1,000 Iraqi soldiers. Accountable for equipment and fire support vehicle worth $1 million. Responsible for the training, readiness, and professional development of fire support team, the first in battalion history to integrate and successfully operate with all digital communication systems.

United States

Responsible for unit training management, vehicle maintenance, and day-to-day unit operations. Readily assumed the duties of battery commander in his absence. Spearheaded transition to a new primary mission of training Military Transition Teams by assessing equipment needs and acquiring essential property. I managed the unit supply functions and accounted for more than $15 million worth of equipment. I managed the maintenance and accountability of nine vehicles and associated equipment worth $7 million. Responsible for noncommissioned officer evaluations and enlisted soldier promotions. Rated #1 of 15 platoon leaders on annual performance evaluation and awarded Army Achievement Medal for completing a company-level training mission with only 22 personnel.
