About Liam Salas
Flexible and quick learning UX Designer, UX Researcher, and Interface Developer. In the Spring of 2022, worked on a team of 3 to introduce a prototype application called MyIMA to help over 10,000 students at the University of Washington utilize the school rec center, form their own events, and manage their own activity calendars. In the Fall of 2023, conducted a UX usability study on the music transcription app “Anytune” that focused on the discoverability and learnability of the looping function within the app.As a UX designer, I strive to make things easier. When I design products, I make sure that people have a smooth, logical, and easy experience when completing tasks. I was responsible for creating and prototyping the calendar portion of the MyIMA prototype and played a significant part in the information architecture and wireframing aspect of the project. Throughout this process, we were working with users to ensure that each feature was clear and optimized. It is my core belief that users should feel like their time is valued, ensuring the tools we create are considered a boon rather than a chore. As a UX Researcher, my goal is to truly understand the people who I’m making solutions for, thus ensuring my products benefit them as much as possible. User research is of the utmost importance in my design process. When conducting user research, such as in the “Anytune” usability study, our team conducted user interviews, recorded field studies, and of course researched Anytune itself to give quality design recommendations to the app.As an interface developer, my goal is to have clear visual communication on all my interfaces. I make the purpose of every page clear, and I make it easy for the user to identify which navigation items to use to complete their desired task. At the end of the day, I design for people. I strive to design with inclusiveness and accessibility in mind. My goal is to create experiences that are usable and enjoyable for everyone, regardless of their abilities or background. What makes me unique from other UX designers is my experience working on backend and frontend development. When developing Buy My Partisan, I accessed a RESTful API to obtain politician data and wrote python code to interpret, manipulate, and return it. My experience working on BMP enables me to understand my designs from a developer’s perspective. This allows me to collaborate with them more effectively because I can communicate design decisions in a way that takes into account technical implications while still maintaining the integrity of my designs.
