As Head of H&S the role involved overseeing the collective improvement of H&S performance across the 8 production plants based in England and Wales. My main efforts during this 6 month endeavour were to: ● Assess the business’ strengths and weaknesses to develop group and individual site strategies to progressively improve H&S performance ● Target accident reduction through initiatives based upon understanding the problems and developing solutions ● Developing an ISO45001:2018 compliant Health and Safety Management System framework for all sites to utilise, standardising the H&S Management approach whilst retaining required flexibility for sites to be functional as well as compliant, with an emphasis on keeping the process as simple to use as possible at operations level ● Supporting Site Managers and Site Safety Officers to ensure that day-to-day H&S needs were maintained whilst developing weaker areas ● Recruitment for 2 Site Safety Officers to increase calibre of safety professionals within the group ● Support H&S incident investigations to confirm investigation requirements are met, including in preparation for civil action ● Development of skills matrix for safety officers to enable meaningful development of individuals in post● Contractor approval process overhaul, to ensure due diligence is carried out for H&S competence and compliance as well as standard business terms

The HSE Team Leader is responsible for implementing practices across a business of 410 employees across 3 UK centres and client site deployments. The HSE Team Leader oversees activities undertaken to achieve business HS&E KPI’s. The HSE Team Leader is responsible for the day to day management of the HSE Team, reporting to the HSE Manager.The business has achieved the ROSPA Gold Safety Award for 5 years.The HSE Team Leader must ensure that:- legal registers for business HS&E legislative requirements are maintained and updated with emerging legislation and changes- Development and review of business procedures and working instructions for business HSE processes. This includes supporting Ansaldo Energia Group integration programme to operate the group under common procedures- internal inspection and audit programs are operated, to confirm HS&E legal compliance, and identify where improvements can be made to attain best practice standards - approval of sub-contractors- incident management practices are conducted for all incidents, accidents and near misses, to enable Learning from Experience (LfE) and root cause analysis- business HS&E Training needs are addressed, by carrying out needs assessments and achieved with a range of internally prepared and delivered courses, utilising IOSH centre accreditations, or external specialists- business winning requirements are achieved. This includes preparing bid documentation demonstrating how the business will safely deploy for projects both at the UK centres, or on client’s sites.- the business systems comply with ISO9001, 14001 and OSHAS18001 standards to maintain and develop business accreditations- budgets are utilised in accordance with business requirements- the business HSE Team are assigned tasks and projects to achieve the HSE business plan objectives and KPI’s. Set up and operated a branch of IIRSM voluntarily for the midlands region.

Responsible for creation and implementation of Health & Safety, Quality, and Environmental policies for a leading UK food manufacturer. Coordination of Health and Safety projects, including pioneered behavioral safety systems, and KPI setting and analysis.Responsible for ensuring completion of risk assessments companywide, including monitoring completion of supplementary actions.Responsible for the management of Health and Safety Committee including; personnel management, training, performance reviews, and personnel reappointment to committee.Developed and implemented bespoke supplier compliance system, tailored to the needs of the business. Ensured 3rd party accreditation, specifications, and Health and Safety information was collated and flagged when due re-audit. Supplier auditor- responsible for auditing suppliers to British Retail Consortium standards as part of businesses own quality policy implementation.Involved in management of site services; hygiene team management, pest control, laundry contractor, facilities and maintenance contractors.

Manufacturing duties, in addition to:Implementation of business Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) food safety system.Responsible for team inductions, mentoring and competency approval.Completion of risk assessments to meet the requirements of the Health and Safety Manager’s strategic business improvement plan, and dissemination of R.A outcomes to all shift personnel.
