My main role in this job is Animal husbandry as I care for all the animals we have at the university. A few of these include:Xenopus frogsMarbled newtsBlue Tongue SkinkClown fishScorpionsBall PythonTortoiseI also participate in outreach days where the university sets up events where we run activities for younger children including pond dipping and simple microscopy skills.During term time I also have a demonstrating role in the practical session. Here I help set up and run practical sessions with students ranging from dissection practicals to PCR practicals.I completed my IOSH Managing safely course and I am Fully outdoor first aid trained with my qualification lasting for the next 3 years.

When starting the job my role was mainly as a barista before moving on tobecoming a waitress. After gaining enough knowledge in both areas I was offered the position of a key-holder.In my key-holder role I take the position of the manager on shift dealing with any issues that may occur.I have learnt how to work in a team and even manage a team effectively, especially on busier shifts this provided very useful.I completed all health and safety including COSHH.Handled money in large amounts in both cash and on a card machine.In the key-holder role every night I would have to do the banking both on paper and on the computer, so I have knowledge on how to work with both paperwork and online systems.

Worked closely with children, which helped develop excellent communications skills.Working with both animals and people widened my understanding of how behaviours vary and how animals interact with humans. This was most noticeable when I led group activities, which involved the children and all the animals.I also developed a variety of skills whilst working with the farm such as: time management, team leader skills and various animal-handling skills, including preparation of food, feeding, and cleaning habitats.
