Named Fast Company’s global top 50 workplaces for innovators in 2019, and Skoll awardee, Proximity Designs is a social enterprise that designs and delivers income-boosting products and services for Myanmar’s smallholder farmers. As senior product manager, I led a cross functional, cross cultural team to design, manufacture and commercialize ag-tech products that increase the incomes and wellbeing of Myanmar’s smallholder farmers. My product portfolio ranged from low tech drip and sprinkler micro-irrigation systems to highly technical solar irrigation pumps. I stewarded each product through the product life-cycle from conception to sunsetting. This involved uncovering customer needs, building and testing minimum viable products, developing payment models and pricing simulations, optimizing our supply chain from sourcing materials through delivery, executing product launches, as well as sales, marketing strategy and campaigns. After the first round of product revisions, we reversed three-years of declining sales, achieving 44% growth against our target of 15%, while only increasing our Y/Y operating budget by 3%. While in the role, 53,162 farming families put their faith and their hard-earned dollars into our farm technology. They used their increased incomes to expand their farms, send their kids to school, build homes and access healthcare.
