I have the wisdom of maturity, corporate / government work experience, and academic interest to work at the community level to raise public awareness, promote causes, fundraise and network with groups. As an educator, I am an experienced and capable public speaker. As an individual with direct poker machine gambling addiction experience, I have a particular interest in harm minimization, addressing and overcoming addiction, and protection of vulnerable consumer groups. I believe that gambling reform advocacy groups and addiction therapy organizations may work more effectively by intervening and engaging with appropriate survivors earlier, as the first step in the promotion of recovery. With a number of years of activist experience and awareness-raising, I am particularly interested in gambling regulatory reform, by including aspects of consumer safety in gambling management. My change focus is particularly upon seeking "best practice" outcomes from poker machine regulations and policies, that could together reduce gambling harms to people, families, communities and governments. One issue that concerns me is that Australian pokies operators are not legally obliged to issue any proof of spending to all pokies gambling consumers.
