I was awarded an internship student role at CSIRO Mineral Resources on their Discovery Internship Program, to work on the petrography and textures of selected cores in the Australian National Virtual Core Library (NVCL), specifically komatiitic nickel hosts. During the internship I carried out and compared multiple analytical methods, whilst studying the mineralogical and textural information of the drill holes. I was also invited along to the annual NVCL workshop in Sydney, between 26th Feb – 2nd March 2018. Laboratory experience and skills gained during this internship include: X-Ray Fluorescence element mapping using the Bruker Tornado instrument, Scanning Electron Microscopy, use of an Infrared Microscope, and detailed analysis of hyperspectral infrared data, including the interpretation of Visible Near Infrared (VNIR), Shortwave Infrared (SWIR), and Thermal Infrared (TIR) spectra.

Temporary Office Geophysicist role in the Geophysics Department at Gardline during multiple university holidays. I worked on live projects, whilst using their interpretation software on various data sets, including side scan sonar, bathymetry, seismic, and magnetometer. In the summer of 2016 I worked on a full project myself, from receiving the data through to writing the report. The valuable skills I learnt here include geophysical data interpretation, report writing, learning new computer programs, teamwork within the department, and transferring skills to my academic studies.

My role involved organising three training sessions a week and competitions, including transport, session fees and emails, as well as leading the warm ups each session. As part of this role, my position of authority in the club helped develop my leadership skills. Working with fellow members of the committee improved my teamwork and coordination, in addition to managing the role with my final year undergraduate graduate studies.
