Main projects:1) The cost of multiple chronic conditions- Data: health insurance claims- Utilized ICD-9 codes to identify individuals with at least one chronic condition diagnosis (extracted information using MySQL).- Developed a novel approach to model the cost of chronic conditions as a function of each condition’s place in a cost hierarchy: managed to study a larger set of chronic conditions than previously in the literature.- Applied regression analysis and clustering to characterize the cost patterns of 69 different chronic conditions.2) MMR vaccination rates of 19-35 months old children- Data: combined publicly available data from different sources.- Used an econometric approach to study the effect of policy, previous outbreak, and socioeconomic factors on vaccination rates.- Conducted sensitivity analysis on the effect of socioeconomic controls through variable selection methods, and principal component analysis.3) Multi-appointment scheduling in outpatient cardiology- Communicated with the hospital staff to generate procedure diagrams for each program.- Developed an IP to generate schedules that are convenient for the patients.- Introduced formulation improvements and valid inequalities to the formulation to help decrease running times.- Developed a discrete event simulation to investigate scheduling outpatients in groups.4) Conversational agent technology adoption by patients with heart failure- Data: combined data from two 90-day studies (each using a different type of conversational agent technology).- Modeled the problem using linear regression in order to investigate which patient characteristics influence the levels of engagement.
