My passion for environmental conservation and disaster management has been significantly shaped by my previous work experiences with World Connect in Costa Rica and my recent experiences in the Brazilian Amazonia.In the Amazon rainforest, I gained invaluable insights into the often-overlooked perspectives of traditional communities. External agents continually develop sophisticated models for environmental management, which often ignore the perspectives and needs of traditional communities living in these vital ecosystems.My experience at the Mamirauá Institute in Tefé, Amazonia, in August 2023 highlighted the significance of involving traditional communities in disaster regulations. In addition to my studies and work, I have also volunteered for World Connect, Inc., a non-profit organization that supports community-led projects in developing countries. At World Connect, I had the privilege of working on community development projects, including proposing and overseeing the creation of a camping area in the remote village of Fila Naranjo in the south of Costa Rica. This initiative improved the local economy and demonstrated the positive impact of community-led development.Subsequently, I joined Mareblu in Costa Rica, where I actively contributed to environmental conservation efforts, including conducting beach clean-ups for plastic recycling and constructing coral reef balls to foster marine ecosystem regeneration.This experience enhanced my skills in intercultural communication, teamwork, and project reporting. I am motivated to apply my skills and knowledge to contribute to the mission and vision of World Connect, and to learn from the diverse perspectives and experiences of the team.
