Short term contract for the summer, working as DGM in the St Ives location

Working with the Events and Catering team on site at the SS Great Britain, working on events taking place on site such as weddings, conferences, dinners to name a few.Within the placement, I have been able to work in both the event operations side and the event coordinating side, which has been able to give me a better insight in to both sides. I have also been able to widely expand my event knowledge and experience with the vast range of events that take place on the ship from murder mystery dinners to opera evenings, and networking evenings to multi-day conferences.

Working with a local wedding planner as an Events Assistant on weddings when needed at a range of venues such as the Roman Baths, Euridge Manor and Trinity Centre

As part of my placement with Elior UK, I worked part-time with the on-site operations team, particularly in the admin and group bookings team, so helping to book in any groups who wanted to visit the site, as well as tours, workshops, and group lunches.

With this role I worked in a range of events including freshers fairs at 2 campuses (Frenchay and Glenside), Green team community garden days, and open days. After the welcome period, I started working shifts in the campus shop.

In this job, I was working at the Cribbs Christmas with Paddington event at Cribbs Causeway. I was based in the Reception and Meet and Greet areas, so my main duties included welcoming people, checking families in, time management, and organisation of the groups. All customers had a specific slot they were booked into so we had to organise the people into certain areas to make sure everything ran smoothly. Due to the nature of the event, with it being for children, there were occassions where times ran over so I had to make sure I was keeping track of the time, how often people where going through and if they were in the correct groups. I also able to learn more about how to deal with disgruntled customers when things were running late. Overall, this has been a great experience for me to work in a fast-paced event where timing is key, so I have been able to build on my skills.

This job included waiting on in a busy restaurant in Cornwall all year round through busy and quiet periods. The roles included answering emails, working with customers, using booking sheets and organizing the seating plans, answering the phones, working on the bar, writing staff schedules, cashing up at the end of the night and dealing with customer problems.I was also able to experinece the back of house of the business so I learnt to handle suppliers, pay wages, organise deliveries and keeping things up to date with social medias and menus.In addition to this, I also spent a short amount of time working in the kitchen as a Kitchen Porter and assisting.In the summers of 2019 and 2021, I worked as the sole waitress on the lunch shift doing up to 40 covers in 2 hours , so I was able to pick up a lot of skills from doing the job solo.

I worked as a Traffic/Event Marshall for the G7 conference that was held in Carbis Bay, Cornwall in 2021. I worked at the security site at the local rugby club as the first point of contact on the entry gate as a marshall. This meant that I was acting as an unofficial information point for the local area as well as the the sites of the conference itself. I was there through the build up, the conference and the break down of the site. I was able to pick up good communication skills here as it was such a large operation, as well as being able to observe the elements of the event and how they all worked and fell into place, so it was a very good experience of managing large scale events.
