Student assessment policy and practice has dominated my twenty-eight year career in education, starting with 8 years at the Indiana Department of Education as a competency testing and remediation program director and as an assessment and accountability policy analyst in the State Superintendent's cabinet. From there, I became the Director of Assessment Policy at the USDOE sponsored North Central Regional Educational Laboratory in Chicago and spent five years working with 7 midwestern states' assessment directors, writing and commissioning high stakes assessment policy papers and programs/presentations, and co-directing the collection and analysis of data concerning the assessment policies and practices in all 50 states. I spent the final fifteen years of my career at CTB/McGraw-Hill, one of the largest test publishing companies within the United States. Starting as a National Assessment Consultant in the midwest and eastern regions, I moved on to be the Director of the National Assessment Consultants in the Northeast and Midwest. I ended my tenure at CTB in the Research Division, serving as a Research Scientist working on the development, calibration and scaling and equating of an interim assessment product, Acuity. Since my retirement from CTB, I have enjoyed working on short-term projects for that company and others writing proposals and conducting policy research. I was also named to the Wyoming Department of Education Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) for the states' student assessment program (s). I would welcome the opportunity to continue in these pursuits and would especially enjoy the opportunity to serve on state assessment program TAC's, and to work with state assessment directors collecting information about their state assessment policies and practices, especially as they relate to the movement toward computer-adaptive assessment.
