President of the Black Women’s Health Imperative, a 501(c)3 organization, the only national organization devoted solely to advancing the health and wellness of America's 21 million Black women and girls emotionally, physically, and financially. Founded in 1983, BWHI strives to eliminate racial and gender-based health inequities and deepen Black women’s resolve in becoming informed decision makers to achieve optimum health and wellness.

Systems change requires systems thinking. The United Way of Greater Atlanta (UWGA) takes on the challenge of health equity and access to care by looking across and integrating systems. From adding wraparound services and improving care for people living with HIV/AIDs to ensuring access to quality care for low income patients through medical homes and strengthening the safety net healthcare system, WFG Equity, UWGA and its partners in the Philanthropic Collaborative are working through systems to improve health outcomes. University of Alabama at Birmingham - The U19 application: Deepwater Horizon Disaster Research Consortia: Health Impacts and Community Resiliency where we’ll examine the impact of the BP Gulf Oil spill on low income communities’ ability to prepare for and respond to natural and man-made disasters. Research can and does saves lives. In collaboration with the Minority Health and Health Disparities Research Center at UAB, WFG Equity will disseminate key research and community partnerships highlighting the life-saving efforts taking place at the community level. You will see and hear from residents and researchers about how they are translating research into practice to promote health, prevent disease and save lives.National Comprehensive Cancer Control Program – Developing policy while incorporating systems and valuing community is a daunting task. This year, we are partnering with the Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE) and taking the CDC NCCCP Program Directors’ Business Meeting participants on a real life journey through health reform, well-intended policy changes and unintended consequences. They will dissect an actual case playing the Equity Game and incorporate innovative solutions to equitable access to quality cancer care and prevention. The question is: ‘Can we all have access to care and what happens when we do?’ These very talented people will let us know.

Responsible for providing strategic vision and leadership to the Society and its 12 geographic divisions for nation-wide health equity policy and social determinants initiatives, specifically, the creation, implementation and evaluation of organizational efforts to address cancer health disparities including translational and community-based implementation research, communications and health information marketing and the development of culturally appropriate cancer control curricula; created country-based and language specific cancer control training programs offered in more than 20 countries

Responsible for analyzing and instituting global e-sourcing systems initiatives to increase spend throughput and improve operating income; designing cost-reducing formula management systems and optimizing staffing structures to manage Global IT staff growth to decrease reliance on consultants; led performance evaluation program to raise employee engagement scores

Provided consulting services to Ministers of Health and Finance regarding country and regional strategy development for health programs, communications and policy initiatives; Led projects for governments in Africa, Latin American and the Caribbean on infectious disease surveillance systems, national insurance systems and processes and developed strategic indicators for comparative health reporting systems

Consulted with senior management in the Office of the Director on healthcare program management, strategic use of information, budgeting and key health and policy indicators to create the first executive-level geo-spatial analysis system that provided visibility to global HIV/AIDS data and program development and implementation costs.
