Mummy to Alfie and Elliott, Wife to Daniel, Ms Lindsay to my Explorers and now Mrs Shepherd to the pupils at two city schools in Aberdeen :) I’m a Primary school teacher who moved to Texas for my husband’s work back in 2015, with a 2 1/2 year old and a 12 week old!?!? Yes, crazy! During our great American adventure I discovered Tinkergarten, outdoor learning classes for preschool children and their caregivers in local green spaces. I became a Leader and introduced these glorious classes to the families of Pearland, Texas in Spring 2017. A position that I absolutely loved and I was determined to bring my love of outdoor learning to the children of Aberdeen when we returned in August 2021.Since returning home I have been given some glorious opportunities to develop outdoor learning in two primary schools in Aberdeen. While at a city centre school for 2022/23 session, I was team teaching through all stages P1-P7, sharing my passion and encouraging their enthusiasm for outdoor learning. We focused on developing frameworks, curriculum based themes and developing their outdoor classroom. While, this year 2023/24, I have one school base from which we are developing Skills based, child led learning within the school grounds as well as in our local wee green space. I am working with all children from ASN, to Nursery as well as P1-7. I’m loving the more leadership role that I have as the Outdoor Learning teacher and the joy that the activities that it brings to the pupils.
