Working in the health and social sector for over 11 years, my aim has always been focused on obtaining the very best possible outcomes for each and every person I have worked with. The roles I have been fortunate enough to work in have all enabled me to develop my knowledge, skills and understanding around providing outstanding practical and social support to people with complex health and mental health needs. In my practice; I am passionate and focused on advocacy principles, supporting people to have a voice and empowering them to make decisions about their lives, by ensuring they have equal access to information, and that their rights are recognised and respected. My work as advocate and in case management has afforded me much experience in working with people with a wide range of people with varying health or mental health needs. From adults in psychiatric settings, to working with and children with acquired brain injuries in the community, my approach has always been to support people to become involved in decisions about their care and treatment by facilitating communication and participation. Working as a Regional Engagement Manager for Brian in Hand means I continue to support people to fulfill their potential in education, employment, independent living and managing mental health. Brain in Hand’s professional digital software system combined with human interaction promotes a pathway for independence and empowers the user to apply their own strategies in situations or tasks they may find challenging.
