Laboratories of Stephen Devoto and Ann Burke. Investigated the role of Hedgehog pathway signaling in the embryonic development of the zebrafish sclerotome, the precursor cells to the axial skeleton. Developed tools in the lab to explore the lateral somatic frontier in zebrafish and paddlefish, focusing on undergraduate training and generating preliminary data for a grant comparing evolutionary lineage of chordates.

Laboratory of Tian Xu, focusing on cancer genetics. Identified a novel tumor suppressor in Drosophila from a genome wide screen, characterized its protein expression and function in both normal and Ras tumor backgrounds. This project elucidated the biology underlying in vivo benign tumors which later metastasize.

Laboratory of Keith Cheng, a member of the Jake Gittlen Cancer Research Foundation. Characterized a set of genomic instability mutants that lead to cancer susceptibility in zebrafish from a genome wide mutagenesis screen. This project sought to identify genes in an unbiased manner that contributed to global genomic instability and assess their potential contribution to the development of cancer.

Investigated the structure and protein expression of cardiomyocytes differentiated from mouse embryonic stem cells in a murine Down Syndrome model, to dissect cellular and structural differences underlying congenital heart disease seen in human DS patients.

Developed digital records for mineral and insect collections. Facilitated the design and setup of new museum displays. Assisted guests and provided interactive tours.

Assisted with medical records in a clinical office and collected data comparing the effect of variables on patient discharge times.
