I serve as Section Chief of Neuro-Oncology at Phoenix Children's Hospital, leading a team of physicians and advanced practioners as we serve pediatric, adolescent, and young adult patients with central nervous system tumors in the Phoenix metro region. In collaboration with neurosurgery, neuropathology, and radiation oncology colleagues at Mayo Clinic and Barrow Neurological Institute at PCH, we provide comprehensive multi-disciplinary care. We offer innovative Phase I-III clinical trials through the Children's Oncology Group, Pediatric Brain Tumor Consortium, and industry-sponsored initiatives, with the aim of continuing to advance understanding and improve outcomes for children and teens with malignant CNS tumors. I started a Cancer Predisposition Clinic at PCH in 2020 and have built a robust genetic counseling initiative, broadening understanding of cancer risk and offering cancer surveillance for young patients with hereditary cancer predisposition.I am passionate about developmental therapeutics and am a leader in the field of pediatric neuro-oncology. I serve as lead investigator on PBTC055, a Phase I/II trial developed with a collaborator at the University of Colorado. This trial is aimed at overcoming a resistance mechanism in BRAF-altered pediatric gliomas. I also lead a phase III trial effort for a rare pediatric brain tumor through the Children's Oncology group. This national trial will build on our current understanding of this tumor by adding a novel targeted agent to a chemotherapy and radiation therapy backbone. I have served as institutional PI for numerous important clinical trials derived with industry partners.I have developed expertise in safety monitoring on early phase clinical trials by serving on Data Safety Monitoring Boards for two national clinical trials consortia. I also serve as a clinical trial auditor for the Children's Oncology Group, evaluating the trial data integrity and working with local teams to implement successful trial practices.
