In my role as the preschool teacher for three- and four-year old students, I implemented daily and weekly lesson plans guided by a play-based teaching philosophy. Through play and interaction, I encouraged students to explore letter-sound connections, conventions of print, process-based creative expression, and a variety of other topics. As an early childhood teacher, I encouraged my students towards increasing levels of self-efficacy and independence as their physical, social, and cognitive development progressed. I also worked with students and their families to create a positive experience surrounding the child's first experience in a school setting.

Over two years, I piloted a program to bring Spanish language to a rural area of Mississippi. Each year, I worked to build fluency with both my 700 Spanish students and my reading intervention groups. I constantly worked to fine-tune my teaching skills, including creating and administering assessments, developing lesson plans, and tracking student data.Since the end of my program, I have returned to Chicago to pursue a Masters in Early Childhood Education and hope to focus on early literacy instruction.
