Within this internship, I worked with a team of other interns, supervisors, and the police department to provide a constructive after school program for at risk youth. We helped guide kids in middle school and high school with anything they need, while providing useful activities to promote the longevity of their social, emotional, career, and personal skills. Each day with the kids looked different. Some days it was teaching skills such as washing dishes and helping clean up after snack time, to mentoring each kid individually within aspects of their life they need help with and encouraging them in the next phases of their life. The kids come into the teen center knowing there are consistent and supportive figures for them to rely on. As a team, we helped the kids help themselves and were a pillar of support they might not have had in their life.

This fall semester, I had the pleasure of working with hospice patients in collaboration with Brookhaven Hospice. Within this internship, I met with my patients weekly to understand, support, and accommodate wants and needs in their time of rapid decline. I worked to uphold Brookhaven's mission statement, to provide an honorable and meaningful end of life experience. I administered activities catered to each of my patients to improve end of life symptoms and mental health, alongside supporting and communicating with families. I worked closely with the interdisciplinary care team in order to provide unified and specialized care per patient. I sat vigil with patients who were actively dying to support them through the process and advocated for patients in order to maintain their utmost care.
