In my role as an Associate Software Engineer, I played a pivotal role in a transformative project focused on optimizing data management and ensuring compliance. Working with PHI/PII data stored in our legacy IBM Mainframe's DB2 database, I utilized the IBM InfoSphere Data Replication (IIDR) tool to orchestrate real-time replication to Cosmos DB.Worked extensively on the extraction of data from a Data Lake, handling diverse types of files including flat and unstructured formats. Executed thorough data cleansing procedures, applied filters, and conducted aggregations to ensure data quality. Utilized the tech stack of Python, PySpark, and Delta Lake on Databricks for the transformation of data into a standardized canonical form, subsequently routing it to a Kafka topic.My responsibilities spanned the entire data processing pipeline. I configured IIDR to capture changes from DB2 logs, transmitted data to Kafka topics, and meticulously managed Kafka configurations and data formatting procedures. The critical handling of sensitive PHI/PII data involved implementing robust security measures, including masking and hashing techniques to comply with HIPAA regulations.Beyond data security, I contributed to universal data transformation by converting information into a canonical form, ensuring compatibility with diverse client requirements. Operating on Linux-based servers, I managed the IIDR tool's configuration through command interfaces, ensuring seamless execution.The primary project objective was to divert customer data traffic from the mainframe source (IBM Mainframe) to Cosmos DB, reducing load and enhancing efficiency and get the valuable information from the data in warehouse. In summary, my role encompassed end-to-end data replication, transformation, and secure handling, leveraging advanced tools and technologies to meet project objectives effectively while ensuring compliance with industry regulations.
