As the Associate Director with the Swine Health Information Center, my focus is on the protection and enhancement of swine health by minimizing the impact emerging diseases. My passion is assisting producers and veterinarians to manage their herd health challenges through targeted research, education, and communication of key results. Equally important to me is the ability to apply those research outcomes and knowledge for practical use in the field to improve biosecurity and production health management. I have used these outcomes for developing applied biosecurity plans, creation of herd health plans and actions, support of development of resources like PQA programing and assessment of farm emergency preparedness and response planning. My training for FAD preparedness includes 2001 participation in the Foreign Animal Disease Diagnostician training at Plum Island, NY and participation in a 2021 carcass composting SME training class. I also have long-term experience in research and management of antimicrobial use in food animal production, trial design, vaccinology, food safety, and feed systems biosecurity. In addition to my veterinary and food safety degrees, I am a 2013 Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine. I look forward to continuing to use my 30 years of experience in the swine industry to learn about new challenges, support our pork producers in protection of swine health, and provide a safe and wholesome protein source to our consumers.
