Supported lead researcher (Dr. Maghboeba Mosavel) in VCU Dept of Health Behavior and Policy in the data collection, organization and analysis of the Petersburg Wellness Consortium project. This project used a community-based participatory research (CBPR) approach to conduct a needs assessment to plan effective, comprehensive interventions to address the health concerns centered around obesity in the affected community of Petersburg, Virginia.

Selected to be one of six graduate students to represent VCU abroad in a community-engaged research project titled "Building Global Bridges". As this project was in partnership with the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), each VCU student was paired with a UKZN student to build cross-cultural relationships while building skills as community health researchers. Co-led research team focused on designing, implementing and evaluating qualitative research methods (photovoice and semi structured interviews) to assess and address health needs and quality of life for residents in Kenneth Gardens, poor and historically marginalized public housing community in Durban. In addition, mentored 15 local high school students and taught them how to use photovoice to examine and explore their community as novice researchers. This multi-pronged international research project yielded several results including additional resources procured for the residents of Kenneth Gardens, a student-produced video documentary of the project that received awards, and a published book highlighting and celebrating the photovoice research.
