* 20 years Unix sysadmin ( root ).Experience with Linux/Solaris. I know when to use "ps -auxww"​ and when to use "ps -ef"​. Can grep and find -exec {} \​; for anything, anywhere. Have installed and maintained Apache-- probably 25 different servers worth. Lots of other sysadmin, including Tomcat servers, MySQL servers (lots of SQL and commandline-- .my.cnf can hide in many sneaky places), AFS admin, scripts for /etc/rc.d to make sure daemons start on machine boot, etc.* 20 years Perl scripting for file and data wrangling (commandline and cgi). I automate everything I have to do more than twice. Have scripted several website redesigns 90% with careful and prodigious use of regex and the occasional hash of hashes.* 8 years Java Web Application Development-- user profiles, newsletter management, software updaters, tools to make the marketing/content folk's life easier, and to keep their fingers out of the real files. * 15 years of Java as a web backend including ecommerce. Basic CRUD applications (isn't this 80% of the web!) and pattern implementation for the more challenging scenarios. SOAP/REST webservice implementation and authoring. * MSIS (Information Science) '99 with coursework in User Interface, Systems Analysis, Marketing, User Experience, Organization of Information, Information Retrieval.* My work mantra is "stop making it hard for the user"​. Sites can look cool (if that's a goal) but they've got to be usable. There's a reason that person is on a website-- our job is to divine why that might be (there may be several why's) and to help them get the information they need.
