I am a general ledger accountant with experience in various types and sizes of business. I also have experience in tax and consulting which helps me think in broader terms. My favorite part of working in an accounting department is the opportunity to learn from the more experienced staff members, and then getting the opportunity to repay that courtesy by mentoring new or inexperienced staff members.Each experience has expanded my education. Auditing emphasized the importance of documentation. Corporate departments were focused on cooperation and coordination. Working with small business clients taught me the need to keep my thought processes flexible. Tax compliance was a lesson in staying calm, reassuring and in control no matter what was happening around me. Graduate school offered me the very important lesson of acknowledging different viewpoints. And age and experience remind me daily that it is good to enjoy your work.
