One video sticks in my mind whenever I am asked why I wanted to work within business. In GCSE business studies I was introduced to ‘Taxi Terry’, the master of customer service, and I realised that high quality service was something that we should always expect and something that should be expected of us, whether to our customers, our colleagues, or anyone that we interact with. Employees are the backbone of successful organisations and HR/OD has a huge role in ensuring that an organisation’s best assets are set up for success. Throughout my time at University, I saw the importance of valuable employees and this led me to write my dissertation on long-term retention rates through the lens of a specific organisation. I have a vast amount of experience in working with people in a range of industries, whether charity, hospitality or by current NHS role. My time within University and a community outreach role enabled me to develop communications experience, event planning and public speaking skills, having hosted a number of events, boasting up to 200 people. Prior to joining the NHS Graduate Scheme, I undertook a year’s contract with my local church supporting their community outreach projects. A large part of my community outreach role was building up networks with local residents and the local primary school, seeking to turn a recently renovated community space into a free drop in coffee area which, by the time my contract had ended, saw 50+ people, each session.Working within the Corporate HR function during my time on the NHS Graduate Scheme gave me a real insight into people management and the gaps that there are in terms of supporting greater development of a workforce. Having left the scheme in July 2022, I began a role in the Learning & Development Team within the same organisation. I love a challenge and truly find satisfaction in supporting individuals to grow through training and specific learning interventions, particularly using reflective tools to enable people to take stock of their own experiences. I am always keen to learn and grow in my talents, whilst always seeking new opportunities.
