It is clear now that skiing backcountry lines at age 12 with no protective equipment was not a safe practice. Now as a Safety Coordinator specializing in Avalanche Risk Management with 15+ years of experience in avalanche forecasting my job is to help people to recognize avalanche hazards, create mitigations and minimize their risk. In this role I developed the Teck Coal Avalanche Management plan that standardized procedures for mitigating Avalanche hazards across 7 Coal Mining properties. Not only was the development extremely interesting it has been very rewarding continually improving the program as our company changes.Before joining Teck Coal Ltd., I worked as an avalanche forecaster for Castle Mountain Resort where professional development was my focus, I was fortunate to work in this company where there was great cross department collaboration.
