A supercalifragilistic day at work generally starts off with a cup of tea. Those where I spend most of my work day applying adult learning principles to educational design in the neuroscience space (how meta is that?) are also expialidocious days (if you understand and enjoy the references here, we are already down the road to friendship). Mind you, this is not to say I am practically perfect in every way; like most folks in this vast world of ours, I have plenty left to learn! I mean, really, who puts two parenthetical statements in one sentence?I see the line between teaching and learning as blurry. I believe that every interaction and every experience is an opportunity to learn and teach, and that through teaching, one learns. I try to learn something new every day, even if it is a small thing. Often it is one of my children who schools me in life, but I also learn piles of things and stuff from my team at work. I live to see the lightbulb go off when someone makes a connection – with knowledge, other people, the Earth – and so I enjoy work that builds these bridges in some way. Speaking of connections, I love collaborating and communicating with my team every workday. I also love that I work remotely, now having perfected the virtual high-five on Teams. Working remotely makes the times I can high-five my team in 3D that much cooler. It also means I can take a meeting or read over learning objectives from a home office or my in-laws' back porch at the beach. You see, I work for education in psychiatry, neurology, pain management, and all the "neurosciencey" things. And in this space, there is so much to learn and so much to teach. Facilitating this process of making connections for teaching and learning in this realm truly makes for a supercalifragilisticexpialidocious day, practically perfect in every way.What does your supercalifragilistic day look like?
