About Lisa Howes
I chair three system-wide groups: book clubs, teen parents (working to engage teens who are parents) and be@school, a team that works with truant youth. I also do monthly (or more) outreach to a local youth shelter engaging with residents, locating resources for jobs and school and running a book club. In the past I have run a grant for youth development that included a weekly arts component and also oversaw the Homework Help program at one branch. I served on the board of the Minnesota Youth Reading Awards (MYRA) as the public library liaison from 2012-2015. This group oversees the selection and award for the Maud Hart Lovelace and Star of the North award for children's literature. I served a panel from 2009-17 for "Booked for the Evening" at St. Catherine's University in which I reviewed new and outstanding children's books.
