I studied journalism with the ambition of one day editing Smash Hits. But as something called the internet happened and my favourite magazine became no more, I found myself writing about wallpaper instead of Westlife. At the age of 28, while editing my second national interiors title, I discovered a lump in my breast – a lump that spawned not just grade-three cancer, but a blog (Alright Tit), a book (The C-Word), a writing career and a BBC film. Talk about milking it.Longer of tooth and shorter of hair, I have since continued to write – for newspapers, magazines and websites, as well as my own blog – while moonlighting as a freelance writer and editorial consultant, advising businesses and individuals on targeted content, blogging and social media. In the autumn of 2011, the c-word crept back once more: this time in my bones and brain, and this time incurable. My work – both on my blog, my second book and freelance editorial – has thus had to take something of a step back to allow me time to concentrate on my health. That said, however, I am still working as a consultant interiors editor for Fabric magazine (Forward Ltd), and accepting writing commissions wherever possible.
