Ecochain is an LCA software company with customers in 20+ countries and a broad range of industries, including construction, food & beverages, consumer electronics, apparel, and packaging. Ecochain provides two solutions: Helix, which efficiently measures product LCAs in bulk, and Mobius, an easy-to-use product LCA tool for product designers.As Team Lead Professional Services I am responsible for managing the team that delivers paid training & consultancy projects to our customers.

As environmental specialist I manage sustainability projects through footprint calculations with Ecochain's SaaS solutions "Mobius" and "Helix". I helped companies to create product footprints (LCA's) and advised them on how to use the results of these calculations for next steps in their sustainability journey. My experience lies in the construction and food sector.

As teacher for the chair group food process engineering I assisted students during practicals and tutorials and I developed digital learning material and case studies for multiple BSc and MSc food technology courses. For example, I developed case studies together with Kraft Heinz and Cosun for the MSc course sustainable food and bioprocessing. During these case studies, students analyse a production process of one of the companies we collaborate with and think of ways to improve the sustainability.

I worked on a project focussed on the sustainability analysis of meat analogue production. I learned about methods to analyse the sustainability, such as life cycle analysis and exergy analysis. The project was part of the Plant Meat Matters project (a consortium between the university and 8 companies, e.g. Unilever and the Vegetarian Butcher).

For the MSc course Sustainable Food and Bioprocessing, I developed interactive digital exercises about mass and energy balances, pinch technology and exergy analysis. Furthermore, I was a teaching assistant during the course, whereby I helped the students with solving exercises.

Phytonext is a start-up company that developed a new sustainable extraction technology, which is used for the extraction of valuable components from waste streams. The aim of my internship was to determine if Phytonext's extraction technology is suitable for the extraction of valuable compounds from microalgae. Grade: 8/10
