In that capacity I worked intimately with the CTO to understand the science requirements while leading and individually contributing to a small group of engineers. Together we developed, from napkin to serial production, our Initial product; a mm-Wave (K-band), fully coherent, MIMO (~200x200), FMCW SAR 3-D imaging system for performing fully automated weapons and explosive detection screening of people while they walked through (video frame rates).Later we folded in a passive array of 3-axis flux-gate magnetic field sensors to generate a 3D field imaging system to further supplement the mm-wave imager.

Acquired by SAIC ~ Aug 2010 for ~$240MI was the first full time hire after the co-founders in the role of Chief Engineer. Helped build the technical team and then both individually contributed to and lead that team in designing and developing, from napkin to serial production, a portfolio of Dual-Energy X-ray, 3D, Computer Tomographic imaging systems.All products employ advanced machine vision explosives detection algorithms to perform fully automated commercial aviation checked baggage explosives detection. The last product developed for the portfolio (post acquisition) passed the US Federal Government’s TSA administered detection testing with the highest ever probability of detection score while simultaneously achieving the lowest ever recorded false alarm rate. Sweet.

Terason was a start-up venture during this time-frame developing FDA 510(k) approved miniaturized form factor, high performance Ultra Sound Imaging Systems.

Woburn Ma

Vivid developed, manufactured and sold Multi-view X-ray Imaging Systems for performing automated detection of explosives in airport luggage. Vivid was sold to Perkin Elmer in 1999.

Rochester, New York Area

In 1992 the Lab was awarded a grant by the US DoE to design and build the then world's largest Pulsed Laser System for performing Nuclear Fusion Reaction Experiments. I played a key role in bringing on line the Pulse Generation Room. The PGR is where the beam is birthed and its temporal shape is established.

Hampshire was a start-up firm developing a small footprint X-ray lithography system for semiconductor fabrication. Its novel approach to the challenge was the generation of X-rays via a table-top Hi-energy Pulsed Laser System creating a plasma off a disposable metal target.
