I am Liz Baker, and I have been a teacher all my life.I started in Girl Scouting in elementary school, learning everything I could and then assisting anyone around me who needed help. I continued through college as a camp counselor, outdoor activities instructor, and co-leader. I started teaching science in low-income, at-risk, majority-minority schools, where I fell in love. The best moments in the classroom involved helping my students develop the confidence to think conceptually and determine what was happening in the natural world and how it worked.But because life never gives you what you think you want, medical complications and PTSD after the birth of my second child took me out of classroom teaching.I received my MEd in STEM Education from UT-Austin in 2015. While there, I taught prospective teachers in science, math, and engineering with the goal of improving their practice and increasing their impact on education. In addition to public schools, I support informal education, targeting the same at-risk students I have always taught. I want to give all participants access and opportunity to learn and enjoy STEM subject areas and processes. I want to help people learn - children, students, or educators.
