As Academic VP, I was responsible for overseeing and managing 8 student officers within the Biology Society at Warwick. I directed to academic affairs of the society, including the implementation of interactive academic support sessions and the successful mentorship scheme led by older students for younger peers. This role has developed my public speaking and presentation skills through running support sessions, chairing academic talks and providing an outreach lab day for local colleges. Managing and assisting weekly academic talks delivered by external speakers from universities including Oxford, Cambridge and Bristol, as well as running several volunteering opportunities throughout the year has broadened my understanding and perspective, inspiring me to go into a career in research to develop solutions to global challenges caused by disease.

As a student mentor, I provided both academic and pastoral guidance to several younger peers.

As Secretary, my organisational and administrative skills were key. I chaired regular meetings and assisted with all aspects of the society in planning, meeting deadlines and running events. I remain a reliable team player, great at motivating others around me to achieve goals.

As a representative of the Y2 Biochemistry cohort at the University of Warwick, I took part in regular Student-Staff Liaison Meetings, and worked with both my peers and seniors to improve the teaching and delivery of the course, as well as the student experience. Based on the impact of the pandemic, I was proud to play a part in helping students gain back some lost time and negate the impact to their studies, recommending and implementing additional academic support sessions for each module as well as pushing for a swift return face-to-face teaching.

I worked 40 hours outside of term time, and 12 hours alongside my studies during term time. I was promoted to Buddy (trainer) in December 2021, though stepped down to devote more time to myself and my studies in February 2022. I had a great time working at Nando's and believed I blossomed as a person, becoming more confident in myself and my ability to guide others.
