About Luis Cordero
I graduated from Davidson College, where I received a B.S with Honors in Neuroscience on the pre-med track and a minor in Gender & Sexuality Studies. I am pursuing a Master's in Public Health with a focus in Population Aging & Clinical Epidemiology as a Jennifer Elliot Population Aging Scholar. Prior to this, I completed a Watson Fellowship from May 2022 to July 2023 focused on eldercare. I traveled across ten different countries to understand how older adults are aging and the services available or lack thereof. My project is titled "Foregrounding Dignity & Kindness In Care Facilities." Broadly speaking, I sought various models of care being implemented in an array of care settings based on resources. If you would like to read more about my work during my year abroad on older people in any care setting (long-term care, assisted living, home care etc.) or are interested in improving the quality of life of older persons, check out my personal blog that contains some of my findings: watson.ljcordero.com. The final report is forthcoming. Now that I am back in the United States, I am keen on applying what I learned from abroad here. I have many ideas and would love to meet other passionate individuals in the field of aged care who are shifting the narrative of aging. The Community component of care is universal across the board. I hope to apply to medical school in the future to be the clinician I envisioned for my late mother and late grandmother, who was diagnosed with younger-onset dementia and Alzheimer's Disease. Other interests of mine include LGBTI* health, education, health policy, mental health, mentoring and supporting FGLI high-school students navigate the college application process along with scholarships.During my free time, I love to bake banana bread, yoga, or do some exercise!
