I told stories on screens through pictures and sound. Sometimes, I used words on paper. I was my own photographer, producer, reporter, and video editor. My pieces generated millions of views on multiple platforms. I worked across a newsroom of 1,100 people, developing video stories in collaboration with reporters, editors, designers, and programmers. I went where the story took me, usually on the road across the country or to places requiring a passport. I traveled extensively and problem-solved in the field, presenting original stories to audiences across these platforms: washingtonpost.com, two mobile apps and in The Washington Post. I've also managed the staff that produced The Post's newsmagazine under a previous online show format.

Washington D.C. Metro Area

Produced video news stories streamed to almost 2,000 Web sites, a mobile app and sent to broadcasters worldwide. Involved in every stage of the process, from story conception to writing to shooting/editing and preparing for air. Also appeared on camera, voiced packages and did interviews. Contributed to AP Radio. Covered 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing as a one-man video journalist. Reported on major national and international stories. Collaborated with AP reporters around the world to bring high-impact enterprise and investigative stories to life in video form. A coach/mentor to AP print reporters who took on a hybrid role of shooting and editing video in addition to writing.

Dallas/Fort Worth Area

General assignment and enterprise reporter who pioneered telling stories for DallasNews.com using video. As the paper’s first multimedia reporter, coached colleagues in video storytelling techniques and production. Prior beats included local government, transportation, development/growth, education, and law enforcement. Also did stints in the newsroom of WFAA-TV (Channel 8), the ABC affiliate in Dallas/Fort Worth owned by Belo, the then-parent company of The News.

Wausau, Wisconsin Area

Covered local school districts plus two local community colleges, with a focus on enterprise reporting. Anchored coverage of a record-setting bond referendum that included a new high school. Assisted in general assignment and feature reporting duties at the Gannett-owned daily. Also co-hosted newsmakers interview program at local CBS affiliate WSAW-TV (Channel 7).
