Following the submission of my dissertation for my master’s degree, I started a seasonal position at the amazon fulfilment center in Ilkeston (EMA3). As well as picking up extra responsibilities with helping new members of staff and with the help of my line managers and process guides ensuring the smooth and effective running of different sections of the fulfilment center. Research Assistant Intern

Leicester, United Kingdom

Whilst studying my MRes in applied health research I decided I wanted to gain some experience of working within a research team. To do this I set out to gain an internship within the social sciences. After looking at ongoing research projects I decided to enquire about assisting on one of the projects in my department. This led me to a fantastic opportunity to work under the supervision of Professor Jayne Brown the Professor of Palliative Care at De Montfort University. Shadowing staff, assisting, and working on the research project gave me an insight and increased passion for pursuing a career in academic research. This opportunity helped me to develop many new proficiencies needed for working within higher education. These include but are not limited to: Accurate transcription of interviews, development of new interview tools and prompts, developing literature search criteria, conducting literature searches and reviews. Working autonomously with little to no supervision as well as working within an academic team. One of my key roles within this internship involved the shadowing of key staff members in meetings, networking events and seminars. This highlighted to me how the typical workweek of a researcher might unfold. Furthermore, I was able to start developing my professional networking skills. This position gave me a great insight into the day to day running of an academic research team and gave me more motivation to pursue a career in research.

Jan 2019 - Jun 2019

Sales Associate

Loughborough

After working at Genting for nearly two years I decided to change my career as I felt working in hospitality was not giving me a sense of satisfaction that I wanted with my work life. I started working at Simply pleasure Loughborough 04/2018. Although grateful for the opportunity that simple pleasure gave me, I still felt unfulfilled and left to start a master’s in research at DeMontfort University 09/2018.Although not in this position for long working at simply pleasure did allow me to develop some of my skills and prepare me for future work in a way few other jobs would. Firstly, due to the nature of the business, I quickly became more confident with talking to other people even about sensitive or private information. This allowed me to easily put customers at ease and ensure a positive experience for all customers.Additionally, as this was a primarily lone working position, I greatly improved my ability to work without supervision ensuring that all administrative tasks were completed within the timescale given. These included but were not limited to: preparing the documentation for the weekly banking, developing and implementing new cleaning schedules, writing up and acting on handover sheets to provide the next member of staff with enough details to perform their shift.

May 2018 - Oct 2018

Multiskilled Team Member

Leicester, Leicestershire, United Kingdom

From 10/2016 I worked at Genting casino Leicester within the hospitality team and later the reception team. This originally started as working weekends during the final year of my undergraduate studies however once I finished my degree, I went full time in this position. During this time, I worked on various shift patterns and developed a flexible approach to my work life. This was important as one night I may be working the bar until the early hours of the morning, the next working for hours in the kitchen and the following day working on the reception during the mid-shift. Whilst working for the casino’s reception team I developed many of my office-based administration skills. This was important to pick up as the reception team also completed tasks relating to admin and data entry when not facing customers. These skills include answering customer enquiries, communicating with other departments of the business, ensuring the entry and management of data are kept secure and confidential, managing customer complaints, paperwork filing, scanning, and printing as well as composing inhouse emails and memos. These tasks greatly improved my use of databases and other programs such as Microsoft office. Most importantly working a Casino bar or reception on weekends can be an extremely busy environment with people arriving or leaving continuously all shift. In this role, I learned to always present myself as energetic, professional, and helpful whether it be to the first customers at 8 AM or the 600th at 5.30 AM. To achieve this working proactively was key. During hours with low footfall, I would focus on the administrative tasks of each role. Restocking and garnish prep for the bar or report sheets and data entry on the reception or any task required of me from my respective shift leaders.
