Director Of Technical SalesScalable Network Technologies 2006 - PresentResponsibilities include defining new markets for the company’s technology, translating customer needs into technical requirements, providing domestic and international onsite pre-sales support, developing technology interfaces, providing guidance for customer model and scenario development, interfacing with engineering for project specification and deliverables, providing training to customers, representing the company at trade shows (often singlehandedly), and supporting engineering service contracts.Achievements:• Had the vision for, wrote detailed specifications for, and guided the development of Network Defense Trainer, the first live-virtual-constructive cyber defense training system in the world. Landed the launch customer for NDT.• Landed STRATCOM as a key customer after they attended my paper presentation at I/ITSEC.• Helped bring on new resellers in Europe, South America, and Middle East and brought them up to speed on SCALABLE's product lines and how to sell them. -
System Architect, Military SystemsCae 1997 - 2005CAE is a global leader in modeling, simulation and training for civil aviation and defense customers worldwide. CAE is the world’s leading provider of civil flight simulators and one of the world’s leading suppliers of military full-mission trainers. Headquartered in Montreal, CAE employs approximately 8,000 people in 35 countries around the globe. Responsibilities included developing system architectures and technologies for military simulation and training. This includes translating customer needs into technical requirements, designing systems, meeting system performance requirements, negotiating specifications based on cost-effectiveness, recommending alternative technologies, identifying deficiencies and strengths of various approaches, and providing guidance for level of fidelity required. Achievements:• Was CAE’s chief engineer on the Northrop Grumman (prime contractor) team, providing technical support that led to the win of the $350 million US Air Force Distributed Mission Training Operations & Integration contract. Upon contract award, participated in R&D studies for the US Special Forces.• Charged by the Vice President to evaluate and recommend solution for stability problems (that had been unsolved for 5 years) that were holding up acceptance of a helicopter training system valued at $100 million, and successfully led team that solved the problems.• As system architect for Communications and Information System into Command and Staff Trainer for the British Army, developed a scalable, distributed architecture that links trainees located in real vehicles who use actual BOWMAN radios and battlefield software to communicate with role players who represent their higher and lower command. This enables commanders to train in a realistic network-centric battlefield with voice and data feeds, while accurately modeling the wireless network and implementing delays in real-time. This led to award of the contract. -
Manager, Air Traffic Management ApplicationsCae 1992 - 1997Led engineering development for an R&D simulator for developing new technologies and procedures for air traffic management. This $37 million development included reconfigurable simulations of airspace, infrastructure, communications, controller workstations, aircraft dynamics, flight and radar data processing, and interfaces to real equipment. Analyzed requirements, planned development, and conducted design reviews. Developed air traffic management applications and extended these for airline use including optimized dynamic rerouting in a free flight environment. Achievements:• Kept the $37 million project (largest engineering development at CAE at the time) on track and successfully met deadlines in very ambitious schedule.• Developed flight watch and flight planning systems, using real-time weather, air traffic monitoring, and optimized dynamic rerouting. The flight watch prototype was subsequently evaluated as being best on the market. -
Manager, Space Systems EngineeringCae 1988 - 1992Responsible for creating and managing a new department specialized in engineering and simulation of space systems.Achievements:• Hired team of specialized engineers and brought in $6 million of business per year.• Was chief representative for CAE in joint NASA design reviews.• Developed a real-time engineering and training simulator for flexible robotic manipulators and their control systems for the International Space Station, and supervised 30 engineers in its design.• Derived training requirements and produced studies and designs for a simulator for the European Space Agency’s proposed manned space plane. Managed subcontractors in Spain, Switzerland and Belgium. -
Group Leader, Visual SystemsCae 1984 - 1987Provided leadership to newly-formed visual group. Responsible for developing new display technologies, including managing subcontractor for optical development. Achievements:• Developed all mathematical algorithms and visual software for twin-dome air combat simulator.• Led team that refined optical head tracking and implemented eye tracking for Fiber-Optic Helmet-Mounted Display. -
Engineer, Flight SystemsCae 1981 - 1984Designed and developed real-time flight dynamics models, atmospheric models, and motion cueing software for flight simulators.
