Immediately after leaving college I took the time honoured route of buying a van, a few tools and used a sub contractor for the small domestic jobs I won. The scale of work quickly grew very and within 3 years I took the company to Ltd status and was directly employing 4 members of staff. The client base included the Prison Service, Lincolnshire County and City Council’s, major construction companies and a large client base of private customers.My role became increasingly office based from tendering, complying with all health and safety responsibilities, personnel management and so on, with ad hoc tree surgery works continuing on larger jobs until I sold the company in late 2006 prior to commencement with Torbay Council.
