Led the development and implementation of President Obama’s infrastructure initiative and oversaw the Better Buildings Challenge.Accomplishments:• Developed and launched a regulatory modernization effort to cut permitting red tape in half.• Led the OMB-chaired interagency Infrastructure Steering Committee composed of the Deputy Secretaries or equivalent from 12 Federal agencies, consensus among which was required for all major plan and project decisions.• Launched a government-wide project tracking dashboard that dramatically improved the predictability and transparency of the Federal permitting process for developers. The dashboard can be found at http://www.permits.performance.gov/.• Developed, staffed, and managed a dedicated project management office with no new hires by using Federal employee mobility programs.• Developed the two Presidential documents that defined the governance structure, planning process, milestones, and goals for the infrastructure initiative – Executive Order 13604 and a Presidential Memorandum of May 17, 2013.• Oversaw government-wide implementation of the President’s Better Buildings Challenge.

Appointed by President Obama to lead Federal sustainability policy and programs across all U.S. government departments and agencies. Accomplishments• Working with the President’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness, developed and launched the Better Buildings Challenge, which included $2 billion in Federal building upgrades using energy performance contracts at no cost to taxpayers, nearly $2 billion in private sector financing commitments, and 1.6 billion square feet in building energy upgrade commitments.• Worked with NGOs and business to identify executive actions to support market implementation of energy efficiency, including green appraisal standards and improved guidance for energy efficiency tax deductions and Qualified Energy Conservation Bonds.• Doubled the Federal hybrid fleet and launched a 100-car plug-in hybrid electric vehicle pilot in collaboration with the General Services Administration and Department of Energy, which will eliminate more than 7 million gallons of gasoline consumption.• Convened the Department of the Navy’s commitment to purchase 1 Gigawatt of clean energy. • Chaired the Federal Sustainability Steering Committee, working with more than 50 Senior Sustainability Officers from across the government.• Developed President Obama’s Executive Order 13514 on Federal Leadership in Environmental, Energy, and Economic Performance, which defined the Administration’s sustainability goals, including a commitment to measure, report, and reduce greenhouse gas pollution 28% by 2020.• Led a 12-person staff team that launched the first comprehensive Federal agency sustainability plans and published the first comprehensive Federal greenhouse gas emissions inventory, among other projects.• Spoke on Administration sustainability and clean energy efforts around the US and internationally.

Prior positions held with USGBC include Consultant, Director of Marketing and Communications, and Vice President of Community and Communications.Accomplishments• Developed and led USGBC’s marketing communications and brand strategy, which resulted in the following growth from 2004 to 2009:>Member organizations from 4,970 to 18,500>LEED project square footage from 180 million to 5 Billion>LEED Accredited Professionals from 9,193 to 80,000>Greenbuild attendance from 8,550 to 28,300• Created the National Green Schools Campaign, which – in just two years – drove a 500% increase in the number of registered green schools.• Launched the consumer-focused LEED for Homes program in 2008.• Cultivated more than $2 million in private and corporate foundation grants to support green building education, green schools, and affordable housing.• Developed and launched USGBC’s partnership with the Clinton Climate Initiative and served as Director for the global Climate+ Development Program.• Planned and directed the implementation of a new top-down meets bottom-up governance model and structure for USGBC’s volunteer network of 78 local chapters, creating a regional council governance structure linked directly to the national Board of Directors.• Built the advocacy program and team, which led to green building adoptions and/or incentive programs in 186 cities and counties, 31 state governments, and 12 federal agencies.• Built the communications team that drove the number of positive earned media placements for USGBC from an average of 400 to more than 4500 stories per month from 2004 through 2009.
