Accomplishments• Working with the President’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness, developed and launched the Better Buildings Challenge, which included $2 billion in Federal building upgrades using energy performance contracts at no cost to taxpayers, nearly $2 billion in private sector financing commitments, and 1.6 billion square feet in building energy upgrade commitments.• Worked with NGOs and business to identify executive actions to support market implementation of energy efficiency, including green appraisal standards and improved guidance for energy efficiency tax deductions and Qualified Energy Conservation Bonds.• Doubled the Federal hybrid fleet and launched a 100-car plug-in hybrid electric vehicle pilot in collaboration with the General Services Administration and Department of Energy, which will eliminate more than 7 million gallons of gasoline consumption.• Convened the Department of the Navy’s commitment to purchase 1 Gigawatt of clean energy. • Chaired the Federal Sustainability Steering Committee, working with more than 50 Senior Sustainability Officers from across the government.• Developed President Obama’s Executive Order 13514 on Federal Leadership in Environmental, Energy, and Economic Performance, which defined the Administration’s sustainability goals, including a commitment to measure, report, and reduce greenhouse gas pollution 28% by 2020.• Led a 12-person staff team that launched the first comprehensive Federal agency sustainability plans and published the first comprehensive Federal greenhouse gas emissions inventory, among other projects.• Spoke on Administration sustainability and clean energy efforts around the US and internationally.
