Totnes Community Builders (previously known as Totnes Community Development Society) is not for profit community led organisation based in Totnes, South Devon. Established as an Industrial and Provident Society for the Benefit of the Community in 2012, the aim of the Society is to support the community in obtaining land, managing and imaginatively developing it, while also seeking to generate a social return on the time and money invested in these projects. The belief is in another model of development, one led by and owned by the community. As a director, I provided project management, business development and financial planning to Atmos Totnes (the community led development initiative seeking to redevelop the former Dairy Crest site in Totnes), the Mansion (a Grade II* listed building used as a multi-use community facility in the center of Totnes), the Community Labour Initiative (supporting training and development across all sections of the community), and Golden Iris (including the Elmhirst building and the Fashion Show and Music Festival.

Worked to strengthen the ability of the community sector (and specifically multipurpose community based organisations) to drive forward social change, by supporting community-led social action, with responsibility for the development, delivery and management of national programmes of support to the community and voluntary sector including community led development, neighbourhood planning and community right to build.

Responsible for the development and delivery of a range of national programmes of support to community based organisations. Key work included leading on bassac’s support under the CommunityBuilders programme, supporting to community organisations acquiring and developing assets (including asset transfer) and the development of SWiM (Sharing without Merging) and Collaboration Benefits programme.
