Summer Intern For The Center For Space Nuclear Research

Idaho Falls, Idaho

The US has a shortage of Pu-238, which is used to power equipment for space missions that go to or beyond Mars. We ran simulations in SERPENT to find the optimal configuration of target (neptunium) rods in order to maximize the production of Pu-238 in INL's ATR reactor.

Jun 2019 - Aug 2019

Lab Affiliate

Lawrence Berkeley National Lab

Berkeley, Ca

Participated in lattice quantum chromodynamics research with the CalLat collaboration. Specifically I did hadron spectroscopy (really cool data analysis).

May 2018 - Sep 2018

Summer Intern

Livermore, Ca

Participating in lattice quantum chromodynamics research with the CalLat collaboration. Specifically I'm doing hadron spectroscopy (really cool data analysis).

May 2018 - Aug 2018

Summer Intern

Provo, Utah Area

I'm working with Dr. Eric Hirschmann to create a general relativistic model for a magnetar (neutron star with an extremely strong magnetic field), code it up, and then run simulations to see what predictions are made. It's essentially a lot of GRMHD and a lot of fun.

Apr 2017 - Sep 2017

Reu Intern

Bozeman, Montana

In this internship I calibrated and determined the practicality of using a new type of camera to make observations for the 2017 solar eclipse. The camera had an array filter which was placed directly on the CCD chip that allowed for four polarization angles (V, H, +45, and -45) to be captured in a single image (prettty awesome). However, eventually the camera was deemed to not be sufficiently responsive in low light similar to the conditions of the eclipse. In this summer I also did infrared imaging of thermal hot spots at Yellowstone National Park.

Jun 2016 - Aug 2016

Reu Intern

Bozeman, Mt

I learned about atmospheric optics and instrumentation. Most of the summer was spent building a three channel detector which sees in two green wavelengths and one red. Its purpose was to observe auroras which it did at Nasa's Poker Flats Research Range just out of Fairbanks, Alaska. The other part of the summer was spent building and calibrating a hand held solar radiometer designed to calculate the aerosol optical depth.
