During my final semester at William & Mary, I decided to work at Craft 31 as a server in my free time. This position allowed me to strengthen my interpersonal and organizational skills, overcome challenges, be a part of a team, and work on my leadership skills by training new employees. I was able to enhance my communication skills with people of all levels - coworkers, management, and customers.

I entered this internship with 3 goals: learn how to use new tools to work with data, become a confident presenter, and improve my Python programming skills. The projects that I worked on during my time at Brighthouse Financial allowed me to achieve these goals and much more. I learned how to use data manipulation tools like Alteryx and SQL which I then applied to other projects. I used Power BI to create a high-level dynamic dashboard to capture annuity outflows for the past 4 years, and I presented this dashboard to individuals, teams, and senior leadership. Finally, I took a large study built in Alteryx and converted it to Python using Jupyter Notebook. These projects and this internship allowed me to build on the knowledge I already had and learn new skills that I can now apply to the rest of my life and career.

I participated in the TRADOC internship program from June 2021-January 2022 and May 2022-September 2022 in two separate offices: Chief Knowledge Office (CKO) and Acquisition Management and Oversight Directorate (AMOD). I assisted coworkers on projects as well as led my own. During my time at AMOD, I led a project and received the title of “TRADOC G8 Hero of the Battlefield” for August of 2022. I “reviewed, researched, and documented over 25 IGCEs(independent cost estimates) and awarded contracts (totaling $730M), creating a tool to organize and differentiate data” and made recommendations on how to improve the accuracy of contract cost estimations. I was described as “a model Civilian employee, and [my] accomplishments reflect great credit upon [me], the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, G-8, TRADOC, and the United States Army.”

I was a server at 185 Restaurant not only during the covid pandemic, but also while working a second job as a server at a yacht club. An essential component of being a server is socializing with your customers and creating a memorable experience for them so that they return to the establishment. However, coronavirus made this almost impossible. In this position, I not only learned how to pick up skills quickly and work in a fast-paced environment, but I learned how to adapt. Even though we were only doing take-out orders, I still found a way to connect with customers and build my skills in unconventional ways. Additionally, after the restaurant reopened, I was a team leader. As someone who had been on the team since shortly after the restaurant opened, I had the opportunity to teach new employees and lead by example.
